March 2025 in “International Journal of Molecular Sciences” The study explores the effects of Veratric Acid (VA) on human hair follicle dermal papilla cells (HFDPCs) and its potential as a treatment for hair loss. VA was found to enhance cell proliferation, upregulate growth factors like VEGFA, EGF, IGF1, and HGF, and promote hair inductivity by increasing TGFB2 expression. It also reduced apoptosis by modulating BCL2 and BAX expression and decreased cellular senescence in a dose-dependent manner. These effects are mediated through the activation of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. Additionally, VA reduced senescence markers and oxidative stress-induced senescence, suggesting its protective role against cellular aging. The study's findings indicate that VA could be a promising agent for promoting hair growth and combating hair loss by targeting multiple pathways involved in HFDPC activation.
