    GlossaryAmelanotic Melanocytes

skin cells that produce little or no melanin

Amelanotic melanocytes are a type of skin cell that typically produce melanin, the pigment responsible for skin color, but in this case, they lack or produce very little melanin. This can result in patches of skin that are lighter than the surrounding areas, and these cells are often studied in the context of certain skin conditions and cancers, such as amelanotic melanoma, where the lack of pigment can make diagnosis more challenging.
