GlossaryPolymorphic Eruption of Pregnancy (Pruritic Urticarial Papules and Plaques of Pregnancy)

itchy, red skin rash occurring in late pregnancy

Polymorphic Eruption of Pregnancy (PEP), also known as Pruritic Urticarial Papules and Plaques of Pregnancy (PUPPP), is a common skin condition that occurs in pregnant women, typically in the third trimester. It is characterized by itchy, red, raised bumps and larger patches that usually start on the abdomen and can spread to other parts of the body. While uncomfortable, PEP is not harmful to the mother or baby and usually resolves on its own after delivery.
