      research Biocompatible exosomes derived from Pinctada martensii mucus for therapeutic melanin regulation via α-MSH/NF-κB/MITF pathway

      This study explores the use of exosomes derived from Pinctada martensii mucus (PMMEXOs) as a novel treatment for pigmentary disorders by regulating melanin production. PMMEXOs were shown to effectively inhibit melanin synthesis in B16-F10 melanoma cells and zebrafish, with excellent biocompatibility and fewer side effects compared to current treatments. The study identified 556 differentially expressed genes and highlighted the NF-κB signaling pathway's role in melanogenesis regulation. PMMEXOs reduced tyrosinase activity and melanin content by downregulating key melanogenesis-related genes and proteins. Additionally, specific miRNAs in PMMEXOs were found to modulate the NF-κB pathway, supporting their role in melanin inhibition. These findings suggest PMMEXOs as a promising therapeutic strategy for treating pigmentary disorders like melasma and age spots.
