Permethrin is a synthetic chemical widely used as an insecticide and acaricide. It is commonly found in treatments for lice and scabies, as well as in insect repellent products. Permethrin works by disrupting the nervous system of insects, leading to paralysis and death. It is generally considered safe for human use when applied as directed, but it can be toxic to cats and aquatic life.
