Moles, also known as nevi, are common skin growths that appear when melanocytes, the cells responsible for producing pigment, grow in clusters. They can vary in color from flesh-toned to dark brown and may be flat or raised. While most moles are benign, changes in their size, shape, or color can sometimes indicate skin cancer, making regular monitoring important.
