    Naloxone, also known by the brand name Narcan, is a medication used to rapidly reverse opioid overdoses. It works by binding to opioid receptors in the brain, displacing the opioid molecules, and blocking their effects, which can quickly restore normal breathing in a person whose breathing has slowed or stopped due to opioid use.
