    GlossaryMuscle (Muscle tissue)

tissue that contracts to produce movement in the body

Muscle, also known as muscle tissue, is a type of biological tissue that has the ability to contract and produce movement in the body. It is composed of specialized cells called muscle fibers, which are capable of generating force and motion. There are three main types of muscle tissue: skeletal muscle, which is responsible for voluntary movements; cardiac muscle, which makes up the heart and is responsible for pumping blood; and smooth muscle, which is found in the walls of internal organs and helps regulate functions such as digestion and blood flow.
