      research Micro-Mechanical Fractional Skin Rejuvenation

20 citations, January 2013 in “Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery”
The study introduced a novel device using micro-coring needles for fractional skin rejuvenation, aiming to avoid the adverse effects and high costs associated with laser resurfacing. In a pig model, the device was compared to standard needles, treating 32 sites per flank with either 20% or 40% coverage. Results showed that all treatment sites healed quickly without scarring or infection. The coring sites exhibited increased fibroblast activity, newly synthesized collagen, and enhanced skin thickness and structure. At 1 month, the coring sites' dermis and epidermis were up to 196% thicker than controls, and at 3 months, there was a significant increase in collagen and elastic fibers. This method effectively induced skin rejuvenation, suggesting a safe and cost-effective treatment for various skin conditions.
