    specialized organs in mammals that produce and secrete milk

    Mammary glands, also known as breast glands or milk glands, are specialized organs in mammals responsible for producing and secreting milk to nourish newborns. These glands are composed of lobules, which contain milk-producing alveoli, and ducts that transport the milk to the nipple. In humans, mammary glands undergo significant changes during puberty, pregnancy, and lactation, influenced by hormonal signals such as estrogen, progesterone, and prolactin.
