    GlossaryDonor Strip (Strip Harvesting)

surgical removal of scalp tissue for hair transplantation

A Donor Strip, also known as Strip Harvesting or Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT), is a hair restoration technique where a strip of scalp tissue containing hair follicles is surgically removed from the back or sides of the head. The individual hair follicles are then extracted from this strip and transplanted to areas experiencing hair loss. This method allows for the transplantation of a large number of grafts in a single session, but it does leave a linear scar at the donor site.

in Transplants  3712 upvotes 3 months ago
The user had two FUT hair transplants with 4,600 grafts for increased density, costing about $11,000 each, and has been using oral minoxidil and finasteride for over five years without side effects. The results are natural-looking with no visible scarring, and the user finds the procedure valuable despite the cost.

A 20-year-old used 1 mg finasteride and liquid minoxidil, initially twice daily then once at night, to thicken hair, though temple regrowth was minimal. The user experienced no side effects and continued both treatments for hair improvement.
