    GlossaryLentigines

small, flat, brown spots on skin from sun exposure

Lentigines, commonly known as age spots or liver spots, are small, flat, brown, or black spots on the skin that typically appear in sun-exposed areas such as the face, hands, shoulders, and arms. They result from an increased number of pigment-producing cells (melanocytes) and are often associated with aging and prolonged ultraviolet (UV) exposure. While generally harmless, they can be a cosmetic concern and are sometimes treated with topical agents, laser therapy, or cryotherapy.
