    GlossarySpontaneous Pneumothorax

air leaks into chest cavity, causing lung collapse

Spontaneous Pneumothorax, often referred to as a collapsed lung, occurs when air leaks into the space between the lung and the chest wall, causing the lung to collapse. This can happen without any obvious cause (Primary Spontaneous Pneumothorax) or as a result of an underlying lung condition (Secondary Spontaneous Pneumothorax). Symptoms typically include sudden chest pain and shortness of breath, and treatment may range from observation to surgical intervention, depending on the severity.
