Inner Hair Cells (IHCs) are specialized sensory cells located in the cochlea of the inner ear. They play a crucial role in hearing by converting sound vibrations into electrical signals, which are then transmitted to the brain via the auditory nerve. Unlike outer hair cells, which primarily amplify sound, IHCs are directly responsible for sending auditory information to the central nervous system.
