    GlossaryHot Flashes

sudden intense heat sensations often linked to hormonal changes

Hot flashes, also known as hot flushes, are sudden feelings of intense heat that are often accompanied by sweating and a rapid heartbeat. They are commonly experienced by women during menopause due to hormonal changes, particularly the decrease in estrogen levels, but can also occur in men undergoing androgen deprivation therapy for prostate cancer. These episodes can last from a few seconds to several minutes and may be followed by chills.
