research Valorization of Punica Granatum L. Leaves Extracts as a Source of Bioactive Molecules
This study explores the valorization of pomegranate leaves as a source of bioactive compounds using various extraction techniques. The leaf extracts, rich in gallic acid, (-)-epicatechin, and granatin B, demonstrated significant antioxidant, antimicrobial, and cytotoxic properties, as well as skin-beneficial effects. The extracts showed broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity and cytotoxic effects against cancer cell lines, while maintaining over 70% cellular viability in skin cell lines. These findings suggest that pomegranate leaves could serve as a cost-effective source of functional ingredients for nutraceutical and cosmeceutical applications.
