This review explores the expression of Perforin by gamma delta Tcells in human skin and its role in cytotoxicity but reports no new experimental results.
This study observed that in human scalp hair follicles, BTNL2 expression is lower in stressed conditions, which correlates with increased cytotoxic activity by gamma/delta and CD8+ Tcells, suggesting a possible role for BTNL2 in controlling immune responses relevant to alopecia areata.
This study found that γδ Tcells play a role in regulating stromal behavior, influencing the composition and vascularity of fibrotic tissues during the foreign body response.

Hair follicles can be dormant and potentially revived with treatments like finasteride and minoxidil, but irreversible loss occurs if certain structures are destroyed. Early intervention is more effective, and additional methods like microneedling may help.
Quitting vaping significantly reduced hair loss for a user who was a heavy vaper and also taking finasteride. Some participants suggest nicotine's vasoconstrictive properties may worsen hair loss, while others share personal anecdotes of hair improvement after quitting smoking or vaping.
