This study assessed the effectiveness of the EQ-5D in measuring health-related quality of life for alopecia areata patients and found it may not accurately capture the burden of the condition, particularly its psychosocial impact, compared to other more condition-specific measures.

In this study, EQ-5D-5L and SF-6DV2 showed suitable measurement properties in assessing health utility among Chinese university staff and students, though they reported differences in sensitivity and cannot be used interchangeably.

This study indicates that the EQ-5D-5L may not effectively capture the burden of alopecia areata on patients' health-related quality of life, and suggests that alternative measures might better assess treatment benefits related to hair regrowth.
