Medroxyprogesterone Acetate (MPA) is a synthetic form of the hormone progesterone, commonly used in hormonal contraceptives like Depo-Provera and in hormone replacement therapy. It works by preventing ovulation, thickening cervical mucus to block sperm, and altering the uterine lining to prevent pregnancy. Additionally, MPA is used to treat conditions like endometriosis and abnormal uterine bleeding.
