    GlossaryVisual Analog Scale

measurement tool for assessing subjective experience intensity

The Visual Analog Scale (VAS) is a measurement tool used to assess the intensity of a person's subjective experiences, such as pain or itchiness. It typically consists of a straight line, usually 10 centimeters long, with endpoints defining the extreme limits of the sensation (e.g., "no pain" to "worst pain imaginable"). The individual marks a point on the line that corresponds to their perception of the intensity, which is then measured and quantified for analysis.
