It includes physical barriers like skin and mucous membranes, as well as immune cells like macrophages and neutrophils that can quickly respond to a wide range of invaders without prior exposure. This system provides immediate, but generalized, protection and does not adapt or improve with repeated exposure to the same pathogen.
