    GlossaryProgenitor Cells

cells that can differentiate into specific cell types but are more limited than stem cells

Progenitor cells are a type of cell that has the capacity to differentiate into a specific type of cell but is more limited than a stem cell. Unlike stem cells, which can divide indefinitely and become any cell type, progenitor cells are already on the path to becoming a particular kind of cell and can only divide a limited number of times. They play a crucial role in tissue development and repair, including in the regeneration of hair follicles.
