chronic disease where immune system attacks nerve fiber coverings

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune disease where the immune system mistakenly attacks the protective covering of nerve fibers in the central nervous system, known as myelin. This damage disrupts communication between the brain and the rest of the body, leading to symptoms such as muscle weakness, coordination problems, and cognitive difficulties.
