    GlossaryRed Hair (ginger)

characterized by high pheomelanin and low eumelanin levels

Red hair, also known as ginger hair or auburn hair, is a hair color characterized by high levels of the reddish pigment pheomelanin and relatively low levels of the dark pigment eumelanin. This genetic trait is most commonly associated with mutations in the MC1R gene and is often accompanied by fair skin and a higher sensitivity to ultraviolet light.
