fat surrounding internal organs within the abdominal cavity

Visceral fat, also known as intra-abdominal fat, is the type of fat that surrounds internal organs within the abdominal cavity, such as the liver, pancreas, and intestines. Unlike subcutaneous fat, which is located just under the skin, visceral fat is more metabolically active and has been linked to an increased risk of various health conditions, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and certain cancers.
