Blood clots, also known as thrombi, are gel-like collections of blood that form to prevent excessive bleeding when a blood vessel is injured. While clotting is a crucial process for wound healing, abnormal clot formation can lead to serious conditions such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism (PE), where clots obstruct blood flow in veins or lungs, respectively.
