    Clostridium botulinum is a type of bacteria that produces a powerful neurotoxin known as botulinum toxin. This toxin can cause botulism, a serious illness that leads to muscle paralysis. In controlled doses, the toxin is also used in medical and cosmetic treatments, such as Botox, to reduce wrinkles and treat certain muscular conditions.
