process where fibrous tissue replaces normal skin after injury

Scarring, also known as cicatrization, is the process by which fibrous tissue replaces normal skin after an injury. This occurs when the body repairs wounds by producing collagen fibers, resulting in a mark that is often thicker and less flexible than the surrounding tissue. In the context of hair and alopecia, scarring can damage hair follicles, leading to permanent hair loss.
