learn Caffeine
the stimulant you know and love can be used topically to stimulate hair
- Does caffeine stimulate hair growth or only slow hair loss? Caffeine stimulates hair follicles in laboratory cultures, and one open-label trial in 210 men found a 0.2% caffeine topical non-inferior to minoxidil 5% on an anagen-ratio endpoint; there is no placebo-controlled evidence that it regrows hair, and none at all in alopecia areata or telogen effluvium.
- Is it safe to combine caffeine with other topical treatments? Only one small trial has tested caffeine together with another hair-loss topical (minoxidil 2.5%), and it favoured the combination; caffeine with topical finasteride, ketoconazole or plant oils has never been studied, so no source can call those combinations safe.
- Does the caffeine in the scalp reach the follicles or stay on the surface? Caffeine can penetrate the scalp and reach hair follicles.
