Antidepressants are medications used to treat depression and other mood disorders by altering the balance of neurotransmitters in the brain, such as serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. Common types include selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), and tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), each working through different mechanisms to alleviate symptoms of depression and improve mood.
