Angioedema is a condition characterized by rapid swelling of the deeper layers of the skin, often around the eyes and lips, and sometimes the throat, which can lead to breathing difficulties. It can be triggered by allergic reactions, medications, or genetic factors, and is sometimes referred to as Quincke's edema. This swelling is due to fluid accumulation from leaky blood vessels, often involving histamine or bradykinin pathways.
