Determination of Zinc Levels in Commercially Available Vegetables in Kaduna, Nigeria and Its Environs

    This study assessed zinc levels in various vegetables from Kaduna, Nigeria, due to concerns about environmental pollution and its impact on soil and crops. Zinc is a crucial micronutrient, and its deficiency can lead to health issues such as hair loss and growth retardation. The study analyzed six types of vegetables using atomic absorption spectrophotometry, finding significant zinc concentrations ranging from 0.012 ± 0.21 to 0.042 ± 0.01 mg/g. Amaranthus tricolor had the highest zinc concentration, while Brassica olaracea had the lowest. These findings highlighted the varying zinc content in vegetables, which is important for dietary considerations.
