TLDR Zinc deficiency harms goat health and can cause economic losses.
The study on experimentally induced zinc deficiency in 25 Iraqi local breed goats, aged 5-6 months, revealed significant health impacts over a 10-week period. The goats exhibited clinical signs such as retardation in hair growth, alopecia, rough hair coat, and skin issues, alongside decreased appetite and emaciation. Hematological changes included a significant decrease in red blood cell counts initially, followed by increases, and fluctuating hemoglobin and packed cell volume levels. Serum zinc levels significantly decreased throughout the study. The study concluded that zinc deficiency adversely affected the goats' health, potentially leading to economic losses.
