TLDR Zinc levels in hair and blood are linked to enzyme activity in people with certain skin conditions.
The study investigated zinc content in patients with acne phlegmonosa and alopecia areata. For acne patients, zinc levels in hair were measured using atomic absorption spectrophotometry and compared with serum zinc levels assessed indirectly via alkaline phosphatase activity. For alopecia areata patients, serum zinc levels were directly measured and compared with serum alkaline phosphatase activity. A correlation was found between zinc levels in hair and serum and the alkaline phosphatase activity in serum for both patient groups.
