TLDR Higher hair levels of zinc and chromium were linked to less cognitive decline in very old people.
The study involved 50 centenarians and 73 oldest-old adults and found that higher levels of zinc and chromium in the hair were associated with a reduced likelihood of age-related cognitive decline (ARCD). Zinc is crucial in cellular metabolism and acts as an antioxidant, while chromium can improve glucose management and enhance cognitive function in older adults at risk for neurodegeneration. However, the study had limitations such as a small sample size and lack of follow-up results. Further research is needed to confirm these findings and explore the potential benefits of zinc and chromium supplementation for cognitive function.
