Healing Rate and Gross Appearance of Wounds in Goats Subjected to Exploratory Laparotomy Under Distal Paravertebral Nerve Block and Aquapuncture
TLDR Aquapuncture may improve wound healing and hair growth in goats compared to nerve block.
The study investigated the effects of aquapuncture using 2% chili pepper decoction on post-surgical wound healing and appearance in 12 female Philippine native goats undergoing exploratory laparotomy. The goats were divided into two groups: one receiving distal paravertebral nerve block (DPNB) and the other aquapuncture (AQP). Over a 14-day period, the wound healing rate was similar between the groups, but 40% of the AQP group achieved complete wound healing, unlike the DPNB group. No significant differences were noted in inflammation, hyperemia, wound edge apposition, or exudate between the groups. However, increased hair growth was observed in the AQP group. The study suggested that aquapuncture analgesia might enhance wound healing and hair growth compared to distal paravertebral nerve block in goats.
