TLDR A family had a rare fungal infection called white piedra, identified as Trichosporon inkin.
A family initially diagnosed with pediculosis was found to have white piedra, a superficial mycosis caused by Trichosporon spp., specifically identified as Trichosporon inkin through mycological culture and molecular identification. This study highlighted the rarity of T. inkin infections in Southern Brazil and emphasized the importance of molecular tools in accurately identifying Trichosporon species.
