TLDR Vitex negundo oil promotes hair growth and may treat alopecia safely.
The study explores the use of Vitex negundo extract in formulating an herbal oil for hair growth and alopecia treatment. The ethanolic extract, rich in flavonoids and phenolics, was tested on rats, showing no toxicity up to 2000 mg/kg. The oil demonstrated significant hair growth, with initiation within the first week and full growth in 20-24 days. The F3 formulation's effectiveness was comparable to Minoxidil, working by inhibiting 5α-reductase and reducing DHT levels, which are associated with androgenetic alopecia. The study concludes that Vitex negundo offers a natural, safe alternative to synthetic treatments, though further research is needed to confirm its efficacy and safety in humans.
