TLDR Vitamins A, B, C, and D are important for skin health and are being explored for new uses, but more research is needed to confirm their effectiveness.
Vitamins A, B, C, and D play a significant role in treating various dermatologic conditions in both topical and oral forms. New applications of these vitamins are emerging, such as the use of vitamin B3 for non-melanoma skin cancer prevention, vitamin B6 for preventing chemotherapy-induced alopecia, and vitamin C as an adjuvant treatment for malignant melanoma. However, further data is needed to validate these findings. Vitamin B7 is commonly used for hair, skin, and nail health, with evidence supporting its supplementation in patients with uncombable hair syndrome, brittle nail syndrome, and seborrheic dermatitis. Some studies have also shown benefits in healthy individuals, but others have shown a neutral effect, indicating the need for further randomized controlled trials. The use of vitamin D for treating atopic dermatitis has shown conflicting results and requires further investigation.
