TLDR Low vitamin D3 is not linked to different levels of thyroid hormones in people with autoimmune thyroid disease.
The study aimed to explore the relationship between autoimmune thyroid disease and vitamin D3 deficiency in a Georgian population, involving 306 patients aged 18–65. The results indicated that the group with autoimmune thyroid disease had significantly higher occurrences of symptoms such as hair loss, brittle nails, dizziness, general weakness, and mood swings compared to controls. Additionally, this group had significantly higher levels of Anti-TPO antibodies, which are indicative of autoimmune thyroid disease. However, the mean values of vitamin D and TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) were not significantly different between the study group and controls, suggesting that while symptoms and autoimmune markers were elevated, vitamin D and TSH levels did not differ significantly.
