TLDR The method can measure vitamin B3 levels in human hair accurately.
The document describes a study that developed a liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method to detect and quantify vitamin B3 (nicotinamide) and vitamin B6 vitamers in human hair. The study included 40 student volunteers from the UAE. The method was validated for accuracy, precision, and recovery, among other parameters. It was found that nicotinamide could be detected and quantified in hair samples, with concentrations ranging from 100-4000 pg/mg. This method provides a non-invasive way to assess nicotinamide levels over time and could be useful for diagnosing vitamin B3 deficiency. The study was conducted with ethical approval and informed consent, funded by a UAEU start-up grant, and the authors report no conflicts of interest.
