TLDR Vitamin D may improve fertility in women with PCOS.
This randomized controlled trial investigated the effects of vitamin D supplementation on reproductive outcomes in 235 women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in Turkiye. Participants were divided into a control group (123 women) and an intervention group (115 women). The study found no significant differences between the groups in terms of age, BMI, education level, employment status, and PCOS symptoms such as menstrual irregularity, amenorrhea, hirsutism, hair loss, and acne. However, there was a significant improvement in clinical pregnancy rates (CPR) in the intervention group receiving vitamin D supplementation compared to the control group, although no significant differences were observed in live birth rates and clinical miscarriage rates. The study concludes that vitamin D supplementation may enhance fertility in women with PCOS, though further research is needed to understand the underlying mechanisms and overall effectiveness.
