TLDR Vibration anesthesia can significantly reduce pain during hair transplant surgery.
In 2017, a study by Muhammad Ahmad and Humayun Mohmand involving 25 adult patients undergoing their first hair transplant surgery found that vibration anesthesia significantly reduced pain. The patients' scalps were divided into two halves, one receiving injections with vibration and the other without. The average pain score was 4.56 without vibration and 2.96 with vibration. The researchers concluded that vibration anesthesia not only physically reduced the sensation of pain but also distracted the patient's attention away from the injection.
