An Unusual Presentation of Pilomatrixoma

TLDR A painless cheek lump was misdiagnosed but found to be a rare, benign skin lesion called pilomatrixoma, treatable by surgery.
A 20-year-old female presented with a painless lump on her right cheek, initially misdiagnosed as a sebaceous cyst. After excision, histopathology revealed it was a pilomatrixoma, a rare, benign skin lesion originating from hair matrix cells. Pilomatrixomas are typically found in young children but can also occur in adults, appearing as skin-colored or purplish lesions, primarily on the head and neck. Diagnosis relies on identifying 'basophilic cells' and 'shadow cells,' with calcium deposits common in these lesions. Treatment involves complete surgical excision, with complications being rare.
