TLDR Topical prostaglandin E2 can help treat both alopecia areata and vitiligo.
A 12-year-old girl presented with colocalization of alopecia areata (AA) and vitiligo on her left eyelid, a rare occurrence with only two previous reports. Treatment with topical prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) eyedrops led to significant repigmentation and regrowth of eyelashes within 2 months. This case supports the potential of PGE2 in treating AA and vitiligo, particularly when they occur together in the same anatomical location. The study highlighted the autoimmune basis of both conditions and the immunomodulatory effects of prostaglandin on melanocytes and hair follicles.
