TLDR Hair loss and polyneuropathy improved, but severe vision impairment persisted.
The document reported on two patients (mother and daughter) who experienced severe thallium poisoning, leading to hair loss, polyneuropathy, and visual impairment. Despite initial normal electrophysiological findings, thallium poisoning was later confirmed through toxicological analysis. Both patients were treated with Prussian blue, which increased thallium elimination. Hair loss was fully reversible, and polyneuropathy in the lower extremities improved substantially over a 2-year follow-up. However, residual motor and sensory impairments, as well as severe asymmetrical vision impairment with central scotomata and impaired color discrimination, persisted, with substantial improvement in visual function deemed unlikely.
