TLDR Early diagnosis and treatment of hair ingestion in children can prevent serious health issues.
This case report discusses a 7-year-old girl with a trichobezoar, a mass of ingested hair causing gastric obstruction, diagnosed through endoscopy after inconclusive imaging. She presented with abdominal pain, weight loss, and iron deficiency. Surgical removal of the trichobezoar was performed, and she was referred to behavioral therapy for trichotillomania. Post-treatment, she regained weight and showed no further signs of hair ingestion. The report emphasizes considering trichobezoar in children with unexplained gastrointestinal symptoms and highlights the importance of early diagnosis, surgical intervention, and psychiatric support to prevent recurrence.
