TLDR Trichoscopy can help diagnose Vitamin B12, Vitamin D3, and ferritin deficiencies without blood tests.
This study evaluated the effectiveness of trichoscopy as a non-invasive method to identify deficiencies in Vitamin B12, Vitamin D3, and serum ferritin in 50 patients with Telogen Effluvium (TE). The results showed significant correlations between serum Vitamin D3 and Vitamin B12 levels, as well as between Vitamin D3 and ferritin levels. Specific trichoscopic patterns, such as the presence of few vellus hairs, were significantly associated with these deficiencies. The study concludes that trichoscopy can aid in the early diagnosis and management of these nutritional deficiencies, potentially reducing the need for invasive blood tests.

The user is experiencing sudden hair loss and is considering micro-needling, low-level light therapy, iron supplements, folihair, and Omega 3. They are hesitant to start finasteride, suspecting the hair loss might be due to telogen effluvium from a past COVID-19 infection.

A 26-year-old with extreme male pattern baldness saw hair regrowth after 6 months using Minoxidil, Finasteride, microneedling, Nizoral, a vitamin complex, biotin, and a shampoo with baicapil. Continuation of treatment is necessary to maintain results; stopping may lead to hair loss, making a hair transplant a potential future option.
