TLDR The study found that Temporal Triangular Alopecia often starts in early childhood, while Folliculitis Decalvans is characterized by tufted hairs and redness around hair follicles.
The document presents findings from two separate studies on different types of alopecia. The first study focused on Temporal Triangular Alopecia (TTA), involving 31 patients, and found that TTA is most commonly diagnosed in the first two years of life, with a slight female predominance and a preference for the left side of the scalp. The average size of the alopecia was 3.6 cm, and trichoscopy revealed white hairs, diverse hair diameters, and vellus hair as common features. No effective treatments were identified except for surgery. The second study examined Folliculitis Decalvans (FD), including 58 patients, and identified tufted hairs, perifollicular erythema, and follicular hyperkeratosis as hallmark trichoscopic features. The presence of pustules was associated with disease severity and activity, while follicular hyperkeratosis and hair diameter diversity were associated with trichodynia. No commercial support was identified for either study.
