TLDR Trichoscopy effectively diagnoses allergic scalp contact dermatitis.
The pilot study "The identification of trichoscopic features of allergic scalp contact dermatitis: a pilot-study of a single center" conducted a retrospective chart review of 12 patients diagnosed with allergic scalp contact dermatitis (ASCD) from January 2020 to September 2021. The study found that the main allergens causing ASCD were topical minoxidil (58.33%) and p-phenylenediamine (PFD) (33.33%). Trichoscopy, a method for investigating scalp diseases, revealed specific features associated with ASCD, including erythema (100%), white scales (100%), arborizing vessels (91.2%), and simple red loops (91.2%). The study concluded that trichoscopy is a useful tool for diagnosing ASCD.
